83-year-old arrested for multiple counts of child sexual abuse

Salt Lake City — An 83-year-old registered sex offender living in Roy was arrested Thursday after he admitted to sexually abusing multiple young girls.

On Nov. 1, parents reported that their young daughter had disclosed to them that Dean Eldon Jones sexually abused her multiple times over the past year in his basement, according to charging documents.

A police officer interviewed Jones on Nov. 16. In the charging documents, the officer said Jones admitted to touching the victim inappropriately multiple times and that he molested several other young girls in the same neighborhood.

One day later, Jones admitted to the same crimes after being read his Miranda rights and was arrested.

The charging documents note that Jones was “previously convicted federally of several sex offenses involving children and is currently in compliance on the sex offender registry.”
