Chad Miller was in Rappahannock Regional Jail on alleged child sexual abuse charges

Chad Leroy Miller, was arrested last week on charges that he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl in his wife’s Spotsylvania, VA. Girl Scout troop.

According to a report by NBC 12 News, the 47 year-old Miller,  was charged “with 30 felony counts of possessing child pornography and one count of taking indecent liberties with a child while in a custodial role.”

The news articles states that Miller chaperoned camping trips and other outings for the troop, and is also being considered a person of interest by law enforcement authorities in Fairfax, VA in a similar sexual abuse investigation.

An article by the Fredericksburg Free Lance Star’s Keith Epps stated that Miller “has since been released from the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond.”  No mention was given as to whether Miller’s wife — the leader of the Girl Scout troop — had any suspicions of Miller’s alleged abuse.

Like the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of the USA is an institution with a long history of public trust. Whenever there are opportunities for an adult to be alone with a child, sexual predators will attempt to exploit those opportunities to abuse vulnerable youth.  We hope the Girl Scouts will seriously investigate all potential policies changes to prevent this kind of abuse from happening in the future.
