Hawaii Catholic Sex Abuse Lawsuit Filed
Six survivors of sexual abuse have come forward and filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against the Catholic Church in Hawaii for abuse that occurred in the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s. The civil sex abuse lawsuits were filed after the state reformed its civil law concerning sexual abuse. The new law provides survivors with a “window” during which they can bring civil sex abuse lawsuits against the perpetrators as well as the institutions that protected them. However, this “window legislation” expires in April 2014.
The Catholic Church in Hawaii is no stranger to child sexual abuse. We’ve written and commented upon those who’ve preyed on children in Hawaii and we suspect this new legislation will provide further opportunity for more survivors to step forward and seek justice.
