Warrenton man accused of sexually abusing teenage boy

CLATSOP COUNTY, Ore. — A 24-year-old Warrenton man is accused of sexually abusing a teenage boy who he got to know through community activities.
Clatsop County deputies began an in investigation in November 2016, after a mom reported her son had inappropriate contact with a man staying in their home the previous month.
Deputies say Derek Neil Mendenhall was well-known to the victim, whom he knew through various community activities involving children. The alleged abuse began in 2015 when the boy was 17 years old.
Mendenhall was arrested earlier this week on charges of sex abuse, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor and sexual misconduct.
