Richard Hayes Jackson, a local insurance representative, was arrested on multiple charges of sex crimes according to media reports.
Eugene Police Spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin told media Saturday that Richard Hayes Jackson was booked in the Lane County Jail at about 3:30pm on Friday December 4, 2015.
McLaughlin said Jackson turned himself in to Eugene Police. He was taken into custody on 10 counts of sexual abuse, 10 counts of sodomy, and 10 counts of sexual penetration, all in the first degree. All of these are felony charges.
However, Jackson’s arraignment on Monday revealed that he is now charged with 5 counts of sexual abuse, 5 counts of sodomy, and 5 counts of sexual penetration.
According to media reports, Jackson was active in the Willamette Christian Center, a church on the 2500 block of West 18th Avenue. Jackson held a volunteer leadership position for the church and was let go weeks ago, after church officials learned about his allegations. It is unclear from media reporting whether the charged crimes were related to the church.
According to media reports, Jackson’s insurance agency was closed earlier this week and neighbors reported that his company’s logo — “the most beloved insurance agent in town” — was recently spray-painted over.
No other information was available about the circumstances leading to Jackson’s arrest.
Detectives are still working on the case.
