Former Daycare Worker Sentenced to 14 Years

Jamil Holbrook, a former daycare employee at a Salmon Creek child care center (Children’s Village Early Learning Center – Salmon Creek) near Vancouver, Washington, has been sentenced to approximately 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges of child sexual abuse and exploitation. The abuse occurred while Holbrook was employed at the Children’s Village – Salmon Creek, a daycare facility serving preschool-aged children.

Holbrook, 23 at the time of his arrest in May 2024, was taken into custody by law enforcement after investigators discovered he had engaged in sexually inappropriate conduct with young children under his care. According to prosecutors, Holbrook not only took sexually explicit photographs of at least one child at the daycare center, but also engaged in physical molestation of a child, conduct that led to his charge and eventual conviction for first-degree child molestation.

Prosecutors previously said Holbrook worked at a child care facility in Portland prior to getting a job at a center in Salmon Creek. Law enforcement in Oregon contacted him in 2019 over concerns about child sex abuse imagery, a prosecutor said, but he was not charged in that investigation. Holbrook lost his job in Portland after that investigation, a prosecutor said, and he subsequently got a job at Children’s Village Early Learning Center, 1900 N.E. 129th St.

Law enforcement officials believe the victims—now confirmed to be multiple children—were all under the age of elementary school and attended the Children’s Village – Salmon Creek, while Holbrook was working there.

Holbrook was arrested on May 23, 2024, following a months-long investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation was prompted after disturbing images surfaced and witnesses raised concerns about Holbrook’s behavior at the daycare. Authorities executed a search warrant and reportedly recovered evidence supporting the allegations, including digital images of children in sexually explicit contexts.

Holbrook’s arrest drew widespread public attention, particularly after officials announced that he had been charged with both child molestation in the first degree and possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexual conduct—two of the most serious child sex offense charges under Washington law.

On May 30, Holbrook appeared before a judge in Clark County Superior Court, where his bail was set at $1 million. He remained in custody as the legal proceedings progressed, ultimately reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.

The case culminated in a sentencing hearing reported by The Columbian on August 4, 2025, during which the court sentenced Holbrook to more than 14 years in prison. The sentence reflects the severity of the offenses and the vulnerability of the children involved.

The case has raised serious concerns among parents and advocates for child safety, particularly surrounding the hiring and supervision practices at private daycare centers. Attorneys representing victims of child sexual abuse say the case underscores the urgent need for strict background checks, better staff monitoring, and increased transparency within childcare institutions.

Families with children who attended Children’s Village – Salmon Creek during the relevant period are encouraged to seek legal counsel. Civil claims against the daycare center may be viable if it can be shown that the facility failed to adequately screen, supervise, or respond to red flags about Holbrook’s conduct.
