Former Limestone youth baseball coach accused of sexual abuse

A former Limestone youth baseball coach faces up to seven years in prison after being arrested last week on sex abuse charges.

Ronald Thomas, 49, of 3826 S. Wheatfield Way in Mapleton bonded out of the Peoria County Jail on Saturday after posting $3,500, or 10 percent of his $35,000 bond. He was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a 13-year-old boy. He had been arrested on Thursday night, hours after the incident allegedly occurred.

The details of the incident were few, but it appears it occurred at Thomas’ house, according to police reports at the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department. No further details were available.

Mike Daxenbichler, the president of the Limestone Youth Baseball Association, said Thomas had served as an assistant coach for the organization’s 12 and under team this year and was on the association’s board of directors. He has been suspended from both positions, Daxenbichler said, pending the outcome of the court cases.
