Former Scout Leader Joseph Schuerman Pled Guilty to Sexual Abuse Charges
In and around 1963, former Eugene, Oregon-based Scout Troop 5 Assistant Scoutmaster, Joseph Ray Schuerman, AKA, “Joe Sherman,” pled guilty to an “indecent liberties charge involving an 11 year-old boy.”
Schuerman was deemed a “sexual psychopath” and was committed to 90 days of observation.
In the meantime, according to a Washington state council of the Boy Scouts of America, Scout Executive Robert Lamott warned the national arm of the BSA that Schuerman might “again be associated with Scouting if and when released.”
