HAVERHILL — A local man faces charges that he sexually abused a female child.
Michael McCann, 30, was arrested Thursday at his Haverhill home and charged with sexual exploitation of a child.
The investigation leading to McCann’s arrest began in January in Faulkner County, Arkansas, when an undercover investigator in the Faulkner County sheriff’s office was contacted by an unknown person regarding sexual contact with underage children, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s office.
In mid-April, McCann told the undercover investigator he recently had sexual contact with a female child and provided photos of the abuse, according to the sheriff’s office.
McCann told the undercover investigator that he took additional photographs of the encounter, the sheriff’s office said.
A joint investigation was opened by the New York and Massachusetts FBI offices. Approximately 48 hours later, arrest and search warrants were served at McCann’s home, according to the sheriff’s office.
At the time of McCann’s arrest, the case was still under investigation, according to authorities.
