Hillsboro Basketball Coach Accused of Sexually Abusing Teen Girl, One of His Players

A 42-year-old Hillsboro man is accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl he met while coaching her club basketball team.
Stevens Hyppolite was arrested and charged with sex abuse, sodomy and rape on March 31 after a search warrant was executed at his home, police said.
The abuse reportedly happened between 2011-2014 when the victim was 14-17.
Hyppolite was the victim’s club basketball coach, according to police.
He also briefly served as a JV-2 boys basketball coach at Liberty High School for 2 months in 2013. Officials say he was never an official employee of the district.
Students who knew him say they’re shocked by the accusations.
“He was always like a mentor to me,” one student said. “I would see him all the time, we’d have long talks. He’d help me out with life and stuff like that, sports.”
The same student says Hyppolite often came to Liberty High School with his daughter.
“He was at the gym with his daughter all the time,” he said.
Police are looking into whether Hyppolite may have targeted more victims. They’re looking for tips and encourage anyone with information to call 503.681.6175.
