Carolee Horning, a Eugene woman who was sexually abused as a young girl by her parish priest for many years, was recently interviewed by KPTV News in Eugene and featured on Fox12 News in Portland as part of their investigative series on child sexual abuse in Oregon. The priest, Fr.  Edward Altstock, was the pastor of  St. John the Apostle Parish in Reedsport, Oregon, and the Catholic Church did nothing to protect Horning or other children from sexual abusers like him.

Carolee had the courage to seek help from our law firm and to tackle the Catholic Archdiocese of Portland head-on, despite her devout upbringing and feelings of shame and embarrassment.

The Archdiocese finally relented and settled the suit, and one of the stipulations of the deal was that an official from the Archdiocese would come to her parish and formally apologize to her in front of the congregation–which they did.

Carolee has shown great strength and courage, and she continues to encourage others to speak out against sexual abuse.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Empowering Change

“We give victims the support they need to stand up and speak the truth to some of the largest and most revered institutions in the world. These survivors are the ones putting a stop to patterns of abuse and cover-up. They are the ones protecting the next generations. They are the heroes. I am honored to work with them”
