A known St. Helens sex offender was arrested earlier this month after police found a drunk teen in his back seat during a traffic stop.

Gerald Ryan Davis, who Scappoose police describe as a predatory sex offender, was stopped on Thursday, Jan. 12 shortly after 1 a.m. on Johnsons Landing Road in Scappoose near Highway 30. According to a report from the Scappoose Police Department, Officers Joel Dale and Travis Killens found an intoxicated juvenile passenger in the back of Davis’s car during a traffic stop.

After an investigation, officers arrested Davis and booked him into jail on charges of unlawful contact with a child, third degree sexual abuse, harassment, unlawful possession of a firearm, furnishing alcohol to a minor and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Jail records show Davis has since been released.

Davis has a history of sexual abuse charges and illegally furnishing alcohol.

In 2011, Davis was charged with third-degree sexual abuse and contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor. The sexual delinquency charges were later dismissed when Davis pleaded guilty in 2012 to four charges of third-degree sex abuse, court records show.

In 2009, Davis was charged with third-degree sexual abuse, using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, as well as harassment and endangering the welfare of a minor. He pleaded no contest to the harassment charge and the rest were dismissed.

“Due to the nature of the alleged crimes and prior criminal history, police believe there may be more victims who have not come forward,” a news release from the Scappoose Police Department states. Anyone else who may have been a victim is urged to call Officer Dale at 503-397-1521.
