Dr. Edward Gary Edwards was the primary medical provider at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility for many years. MacLaren is an Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) close-custody facility for youth ages twelve to twenty-four. In this role, Dr. Edwards provided medical care to adjudicated youth at MacLaren, including performing intake examinations for newly arrived youth.

Dr. Edwards is the subject of multiple allegations of sexual abuse. Many of these individuals report Dr. Edwards subjecting them to sexual the abuse during medical appointments. Multiple youths specifically describe being abused during their intake appointments. Some men report that Dr. Edwards talked continuously while abusing them.

Youth at MacLaren recall Dr. Edwards’ sexual misconduct being “common knowledge,” describing frequent conversations and jokes among youth at MacLaren regarding Dr. Edwards’ inappropriate behavior. Some individuals also recall older youth warning new arrivals about Dr. Edwards.

Allegations of Dr. Edwards’ sexual abuse of MacLaren youths span from 1999 to 2007. Youths at MacLaren purportedly reported Dr. Edwards’ abuse to staff members as early as 2001. 

Dr. Edward Gary Edwards was the primary medical provider at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility, an Oregon Youth Authority (OYA). According to records obtained from the State of Oregon, Dr. Edwards worked as doctor “managing the health of the youth at MacLaren since 1977.” Dr. Edwards was later named chief medical officer at MacLaren.
